Le 9 octobre 2017, le prix Nobel de l’Economie a été attribué à Richard Thaler, professeur à l’Université de Chicago, pour ses recherches en psychologie appliquée au domaine des processus de décision. Ce que le communiqué officiel ne dit pas, mais qu’il faut savoir, c’est que l’heureux bénéficiaire de cette distinction a longtemps travaillé en collaboration avec deux économistes israéliens, Daniel Kahnenman et Amos Tversky. Kahnenman (prix Nobel d’Economie en 2002) est en effet l’auteur d’un modèle de raisonnement, qu’il a longuement exposé dans son ouvrage « Les deux vitesses de la pensée » : il démontre que toute décision fait appel à deux niveaux d’activité cérébrale, qui conjuguent automatismes et réflexion, intuition et logique. Quant à Amos Tversky, professeur à Stanford et disparu à 59 ans en 1996, on peut affirmer que Richard Thaler aura repris et développé ses recherches en modélisation mathématique des comportements économiques.
